Debt Interest Scenario

See how refinancing and a rate change affect an annual interest run rate.

Change the assumptions

The debt stock comes from the latest Treasury snapshot. The 20% refinancing share and +100 basis-point rate change are illustrative assumptions.

Annual interest run-rate change: +$63.67 billion.

Method and limits

Annual change = debt × refinancing share ÷ 100 × rate change ÷ 10,000. A positive result is higher annual expense; a negative result is lower expense.

This is the annual run rate once the selected share has repriced. It does not model when refinancing happens during a year, future borrowing, maturity buckets, tax receipts, or the deficit. The refinancing share is a user assumption, not a measured maturity schedule.
